Fat obtained from another part of your body (such as hips, thighs or lower abdomen) is injected into areas that may need to be "filled out". Depending on your situation, fat grafting may be the procedure of choice for lip augmentation, filling out of facial wrinkles (such as the frown or smile lines and "tear troughs"), facial scars, facial contouring of cheeks and chin or even contouring and augmentation of buttocks. Since the fat is taken from your own body it is readily available and without any chance of allergic reaction. Grafted fat is usually soft and feels natural. Depending on the area being treated there may be a need for initial over-correction to compensate for potential resorption. Touch-up procedures may be necessary in the future. This low-risk procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthetic.
