Laser resurfacing is used to smooth lines and wrinkles of the skin, tighten skin laxity, and to reduce or remove scarring from trauma or acne. Typically a Carbon Dioxide Laser is used. This laser vaporizes a very thin section of the skin surface or epidermis. This results in new collagen formation and skin tightening. It is ideal for the fine crepe skin of the lower eyelids, crow's feet, and lip lines. Some patients will have the whole face done to smooth and tighten skin that has been damaged by the sun. Pigmentation is evened out and sun spots removed. Camouflage make-up can often be applied 7-10 days post laser resurfacing and may be required for several months while final erythema (pinkness) of the skin subsides.
